Jérôme Bel
Choreographer, Director
Born in France in 1964. Globally active dancer and choreographer based in Paris, known for his conceptual dance works blending physical expression with explanatory language. Assisted Philippe Decouflé with the opening and closing ceremonies for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics and staged his first choreography work in 1994. In 2004 he was invited by the Paris Opera House to stage "Véronique Doisneau" at the Paris Opera Ballet. His now definitive "The Show Must Go On" was first produced in 2001 and it won a Bessie Award in New York in 2005. In the same year he collaborated with Thai choreographer and dancer Pichet Klunchun for "Pichet Klunchun and Myself", conceived as a conversation of physical expression, was staged the 2008 Yokohama Triennale and awarded a Routes Princess Margriet Award for cultural diversity in 2008 by the European Cultural Foundation. In 2010 his collaboration with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, "3 Abschied" (3 Farewells) was staged at the Aichi Triennale and the Saitama Arts Theatre.
