Miwa Yanagi
Visual artist and a graduate of Kyoto City University of Arts, Yanagi is well known for the "My Grandmothers" series visualizing the notions of several young women when asked to imagine what type of woman they themselves might become in fifty years' time. "Granddaughters" is a video work in which elderly women talk about the memories of their grandmothers, and "Fairy Tale" is a photo and video installation thematizing stories featuring young and old women. In 2009 she represented Japan for the Japan pavilion in the 53rd Venice Biennale. In spring 2010 she wrote and directed "Sakura cha-kai" at the Kyoto Arts Center. This year has been working on the "1924" trilogy, which began with "1924 Tokyo-Berlin" at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, and continues in November at the Kanagawa Arts Theatre with "1924 Kaisen".
