Tsuyoshi Shirai

Born in Nagano Prefecture in 1976. From 1996-2000 he was a member of the dance company Kim Itoh + the Glorious Future, and also helped establish Study of Live Works - Baneto in 1996. In 2000 he won the Bagnolet International Choreography Award and he premiered his solo work "mass, slide, & ." in 2004, and won the Toyota Choreography Award in 2006. He set up the creative unit AbsT in 2006 and was given the JaDaFo Award in 2007. From 2006-2007 he collaborated with the Arditti String Quartet. In 2008 he was invited by the Kyoto Art Center to create the work "blueLion" with dancers Masako Terada and Yukio Suzuki, alongside genre-less musicians. This was also performed at F/T09 Spring and was highly acclaimed. He created "still life" at the Kyoto Art Center in 2010 and in 2010-2011 he worked on the video project "Choreography filmed: 5 days of movement" at YCAM, which is currently viewable online (http://c-filmed.ycam.jp).
