Tsuyoshi Ozawa
Visual Artist
Born in 1965 in Tokyo. While still a student he began his much-discussed series "Jizo-ing" in which he photographed statues of the god Jizo that he made himself and then placed them in unusual environments. From 1993 he began to create mobile, miniature galleries from milk cartons with names such as "Nasubi Gallery" or "Consultation Art". He then ironically re-made famous works of Japanese art as soy sauce for his 1999 "Museum of Soy Sauce". He started his "Vegetable Weapon" series, photographic portraits of young women holding weapons made from vegetables. He held his first solo museum exhibition, "Answer with Yes and No!", at the Mori Art Museum (Tokyo) in 2004, followed by another solo exhibition, "The Invisible Runner Strides On" at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art in 2009. He participated in a residency program hosted by Tokyo Wonder Site in 2013.
