Summary

Slavomir Mrozek's "Tango" at the time of its premiere in 1965 raised strong reactions, rejection as well as approval, among the audiences in Warzawa. The story of "Tango" is centered around Arthur, a young man who decides to start a "revolution" towards his own family, with the aim of reviving the very establishment, the generation of his parents had fought against. Mrozek in his play portrays the dark desires of that age, when people somwhere along the way lost the motivation to protest and without really getting satisfied continue to stray in aimlessness. A razor-sharp cynical and humorous coup de theatre. A drama that impetuously expresses the strong demand for freedom as one of the human conditions while applying manifold elements of entertainment and suspense. For director Keishi Nagatsuka, who is acclaimed for his bold directorial concepts and delicacy of scenic expression especially in the field of Western drama, this should be a most worthy material. From comedy to tragedy, from laughter to fear, how will Nagatsuka arrange this highly dynamic theatrical structure on stage?
