Leading Chinese experimental theatre group takes a knife to Ibsen and society

Following their success last year with “The Warfare of Landmine 2.0”, which was based on a 1960’s Chinese propaganda film and won the F/T Award, Théâtre du Rêve Expérimental return to Tokyo with their multi-media performance style to offer a radical new take on an Ibsen classic. Director Chong Wang is also a critic, writer and translator of western theatre, and this is evident in his “2.0” version of a drama that originally challenged so many of late nineteenth-century society’s taboos. Wang here employs a technique he calls “stage movie”, filming, editing and projecting what happens on the stage in real-time.
