Árpád SchillingKrétakör
Director, Artistic Director of Krétakör
Born in Hungary in 1974. He formed Krétakör (Chalk Circle) in 1995 whilst studying theatre and film in Budapest and began to direct from the age of 19. From 1998 to 2000 he directed at the Katona Jozsef Theatre in Budapest. "Public Enemy" (1999) won a major Hungarian critics' award. Following this success he had many offers in Hungary and abroad to direct, but he turned them all down and instead chose to work mainly with producer Máté Gáspár. His production of "The Seagull" later drew wide acclaim.
In 2008, in the midst of this success he temporarily stopped his theatre work and gave up directing classical texts. Some time later he re-started his company's activities based on new policies, working collaboratively with the young people living in villages in rural Hungary and Romania. In 2011, one of the results of this, the film, opera and theatre "Crisis Trilogy", was presented and garnered much attention.
